Master Plan Amendment Process

Tuesday, October 25th was the Master Plan amendment meeting for Planning Districts 1 and 4, which include the French Quarter and Treme. Dozens of amendments have been proposed, many of which have the power to greatly alter the document that was the result of thousands of hours of citizen input.  The public input that will precede the City Planning Commission and, ultimately, City Council votes on these amendments is vitally important to ensure the integrity of the document and the process. The Master Plan affects virtually all Land Use decisions and policies for the French Quarter and the City as a whole.

The City Planning Commission hereby announces that it will hold public hearings to solicit the opinions of citizens relative to proposed amendments to the City’s Master Plan, The Plan for the 21st Century: New Orleans 2030.

The deadline for submission of written comments is 5pm, Monday, January 9, 2017.  Interested citizens are also encouraged to visit the CPC website or contact the office of the City Planning Commission for more information.  The City Planning Commission will release the staff report detailing recommendations of all proposed amendments on January 10, 2017.

Public comments on amendments to the Future Land Use Map and the text of the Future Land Use Map category descriptions:

  • 3pm, Tuesday, January 24, 2017
  • City Council Chamber, City Hall, 1300 Perdido Street, Room 1E07.
  • The public hearing will take place after the CPC’s regular meeting, which begins at 1:30pm, but in no case will the Master Plan amendments public hearing begin before 3pm.

Public comments on amendments to the text of the Master Plan – not including changes to the Future Land Use Map category descriptions:

  • 1:30pm, Tuesday, January 31, 2017
  • City Council Chamber, City Hall, 1300 Perdido Street, Room 1E07.
