Your Support Is Crucial!
Short-Term Rentals (STRs) will be coming up at the New Orleans City Council meeting this Thursday, January 10th at 11:00 a.m.
We support the STR Plan for Community Balance. Please see this flyer below reflecting the set of recommendations released in December. These policies and others will be considered by the City Council in their efforts to find a solution for all of New Orleans. Please note: we understand that these recommendations represent moving parts of the final ordinance for Short-Term Rental regulations. Changes or modifications are being considered now and will be scrutinized on the day of the meeting and these recommendations will be sent to the City Planning Commission for incorporation into the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance.
This is the chance for STR Reform we have all been demanding! YOU are needed to help now! Let the Council know that new regulations must:
- Protect the Homestead Exemption Requirement. This restricts STR units to homes where people already live. Any amendment that would allow residents to obtain an additional STR license elsewhere in the city could be exploited to allow whole-home rentals, where guests lack oversight and accountability.
- Stand up for Housing Affordability. Make sure these regulations work to increase the supply and availability of affordable housing units, especially in neighborhoods that are most affected by STRs.
- Support density limitations in neighborhoods and neighborhood commercial zones. Entire blocks of our communities should not turn into strips of hotels. By limiting STR density, we can keep neighbors in our neighborhoods.
Support our Neighborhoods!
Support Housing Affordability!
Your presence is needed – please attend the meeting and wear red in solidarity! Also, please contact your councilmember.
