The VCPORA Gala is our most important annual event and one that offers our community the chance to support and celebrate the Vieux Carré and its oldest guardian, VCPORA. We remain firmly committed to defending this remarkable neighborhood and, with your help, will continue advocating to increase residential opportunities and quality of life in the French Quarter. The success of these efforts is a direct result of your support!
On Saturday, November 12, 2022, VCPORA held its 2022 gala “A Fête For All Saints (and Sinners)” at the Carmelite Monastery.
There was delicious food from Pigeon Catering, Bayou Beer Gaden/Piece of Meat, a dazzling silent auction featuring items from some of the best local shops and hospitality partners in New Orleans, lively entertainment from the Tim Laughlin Trio and Smoking Time Jazz Club, an exciting raffle for a custom Michalopolous piece, and last but not least, a spectacular crowd of Saints & Sinners!
Thank you to each and every single person that helped make this one of the best galas in VCPORA’s history. We’d like to extend a Special Thanks to our gala chair, Lyn Gladney, Sam Mickal Solomon with Bancroft Property Investments LLC, and Rick Fifield for working extremely hard to host this lovely event.
Thank you to our amazing committee members and volunteers for your hard work and dedication to this gala!
We are so excited and thankful to have been able to share the amazing space at the Carmelite Monastery with you all and look forward to many more great evenings like this one.
See below for information about the 2022 gala.
Designed by James Freret and completed in 1895 for the Discalced Carmelite nuns, the Carmelite Monastery at 1236 N. Rampart Street, will soon transform nearly one acre and introduce 25 new apartments for rent into the French Quarter community. We hope you will join us to celebrate at one of the most ambitious and creative adaptive-reuse projects the French Quarter has seen in decades.
For the first, and perhaps the last, time ever – a private, self-guided tour into the meandering courtyards linking the various structures within the grounds will be available to Patron Level (and above) ticket holders only. The main event will be held in the stunning Gothic Revival chapel and its flanking courtyards.
This year’s theme directly reflects the historic value and beauty of our venue – the Carmelite Monastery. As some of you may have noticed, we have described this year’s dress code as “Cocktail attire; Black tie encouraged; Met Gala inspired.” We did this to allow guests the freedom to choose their attire.
In 2018, the Met Gala hosted their event with the “Heavenly Bodies” theme and as such, we wish to do the same, New Orleans style. Costumes are not mandatory, but are highly encouraged.
Come dressed as your favorite saint or sinner.

Guests are invited to dance the night away with Smoking Time Jazz Club, and French Quarter local Tim Laughlin.
We’d like to extend a Special Thanks to Sam Mickal Solomon with Bancroft Property Investments, LLC and Rick Fifield for allowing us to celebrate this historic space with you all!

This year’s gala will not only include a fantastic silent auction from the city’s best restaurants, galleries, artists, professional services, and boutiques, but a raffle for this dazzling mixed media serigraphChimera by James Michalopoulos.
James Michalopoulos has been capturing the quirky characters and vibrant architecture of New Orleans for over thirty years. His art has served as an ambassador for New Orleans, representing its exuberant culture and way of life. Found in museums and cherished in private collections across the globe, the often emulated, always original, art of James Michalopoulos has emerged as one of the most beloved symbols of our extraordinary city.He is pleased to support the VCPORA and the wonderful work they are doing, with his newest serigraph print on canvas, entitled Chimera.
Each Michalopoulos limited edition serigraph print on canvas has been extensively hand embellished by James with oil paint, reminiscent of the deep texture and rich color collectors experience in his paintings. Because each hand embellished serigraph receives such lavish attention by the artist, no two in the edition are exactly alike.
This particular piece is stunningly large at 36 x 30 inches (37 x 31in with frame) and features the artist’s signature on the back. It is currently valued at $3,800.
We are offering an Early Bird Special on the raffle tickets: 1 for $50 or 3 for $125.
Prices will increase the night of A Fête For All Saints (and Sinners) so don’t miss out on this sale!
