VCPORA’S Ongoing Projects
Wasted: Overtourism and the French Quarter
Wasted: Overtourism and the French Quarter examines New Orleans’ dependence on an unstable industry, vulnerable from everything from disease to climate changes, and examines opportunities for the pendulum to swing back to a sustainable model that prioritizes diversification of the local economy, a residential resurgence, and safeguarding cultural authenticity. These concepts will be explored through the lens and real life experiences of French Quarter residents, business owners, preservationists, and culture bearers.

Quarter Kaleidoscope
The Historic BK House & Gardens and The Vieux Carre Property Owners, Residents, and Associates (VCPORA) are embarking on a community history project together to document and celebrate the things that have made the French Quarter such a functioning and living neighborhood for so long.
We are gathering testimonials (in written, video, or audio format) and images or artifacts to include in this project. They will be used for a special 3-part presentation series taking place in the Fall of 2024 and a potential exhibit to follow. Based on the content collected, each evening of the presentation series will be centered on a different theme and topic (i.e. kids in the French Quarter or businesses that served the community).
Help us keep the history of the French Quarter alive and share your memories!
